GRATEFUL CARDS

Grateful card

The “Grateful” 11 x 14 prints that I made for the holidays was a huge hit, and many people wrote asking to buy similar cards, so I decided to have some printed up.  Again, so happy with the way these came out.  The copper foil on the black card stock pops so nicely and looks so rich.  I love to think that people will send these as thank you notes or just to tell someone how grateful they are that that person is in their lives.  We all need a little bit of that sometimes.

I’m selling them in boxes of 10, with matching black envelopes.  Hope you like them as much as I do.

BE MINE

Be mine foil pressed card

I’ve made it a huge goal to roll out more and more products this year, so I thought I’d start with a little Valentine’s Day card.  It features my brushy style that has been so popular lately, and the message is short and sweet.  You know I love that gorgeous gold foil pressed into a lush lettra stock.  And neon pink envelopes!?!  What else would you expect?

I’m selling them as singles, so you can give one to your special someone, or in boxes of 10 so you can give them to all your friends!

**Cards will start shipping early the week of January 26.

COLLEEN + ANDREW – CAMBRIDGE, MA

Colleen

Here’s another gorgeous, intimate wedding from Lauren Wells Events.  I am always so thrilled to insert my work into her designs because she makes everything come to life so beautifully.  Colleen and Andrew got married at the Blue Room, a restaurant in Cambridge, Mass.  Colleen is a sommelier, so the wedding was centered around great food and great wine.  My kind of wedding!

Colleen is also the sister of Jenna from Love, Jenna Calligraphy, so you can imagine how honored (and intimidated) I was when I heard that Colleen didn’t want Jenna to have to do too much work for the wedding, so they wanted me to do most of calligraphy instead.  (Jenna did lend her hand to some signage on-site, as well as the beautiful table numbers.) Henry + Mac did such an incredible job photographing this wedding – I just LOVE these photos – hope you enjoy, too!

GRATEFUL

Grateful print

Since my holiday gift last year, the gold foil Cheers print, was such a success, I wanted to make another one to send out this year, and I hoped people would like it just as much.  I wanted another “phrase” that was holiday-ish, but also worked for the rest of the year, so that it could be something that people hung in their homes year-round.  I decided to use “Grateful.”

Grateful close up

I thought sending the “Grateful” print to my supporters and clients was so appropriate, because I am so grateful for the community that I work within and for the support all these people have shown me over the last couple years.  And although personally, I have been through a lot of struggle lately, and I sometimes like to feel sorry for myself, I am so grateful for the things that I do have, especially my one gorgeous child that I am so lucky to hug every day.

So far, people seem to be loving their prints, and I am so glad.  I am really happy with how it turned out.  The copper foiling is so beautiful on black 11 x 14 museum board.

I have a handful left to sell – if you want one, you can purchase it here.

I also have a few Cheers prints left here if you still want one of those.

CHEERS!

Cheers!

Remember this “Cheers” print that I sent out to all my partners and clients for the holidays last year?  I never officially offered them for sale (although Urbanic and Sugar Paper did ask to sell some in their stores – they may still have a few if you are in the neighborhood!)  But I decided to print up a small quantity because people have loved them so much, and offer them for sale here this year.

They’re gold foil pressed on 11×14 gorgeous cotton lettra paper.  I was thrilled with how they came out last year, and I still love them just as much.  And the best part is that although they make an awesome holiday gift, they can really be displayed all year long.  A lot of people have put them on their bar carts.  How perfect is that?

Order one (or 10!) here.

#LETSTALKABOUTLOSS

you are in my bones

I don’t normally get too personal in my professional life. Aside from the occasional Instagram photo of my son (sometimes it’s too difficult to resist!), I usually steer clear of sharing my feelings or details about my life with the public. However, I have recently been inspired by some fellow small business owners (like Angel Swanson of Love and Splendor and Danielle Walker of Against All Grain) to “come out” and share a my story.

In the past 4 years, I have experienced 3 miscarriages and 2 other losses at between the 5 and 6 month mark of my pregnancies.  Dealing with all of that trauma has been quite a journey, especially because I am not yet willing to give up on the dream of giving birth to another baby.

As a calligrapher, aside from sharing my experiences and encouraging others to do the same, I have been looking for a meaningful way to help other bereaved families. So, today, in honor of National Pregnancy and Infant Loss Day, I am launching a campaign to help de-stigmatize this intangible loss. I have created (with the help of Amber Moon from Pitbulls and Posies) a series of 5 pieces, which I will post on Instagram and Twitter throughout the day, all hashtagged #letstalkaboutloss.

You can also go to www.letstalkaboutloss.wordpress.com to read a little but more of my story and to download my artwork as free desktop images and tattoo files.  Or, you can purchase an 8 x 10 print (or the whole series of prints) with the proceeds benefitting Share, an organization that helps families who have suffered pregnancy or infant loss.

MOLLY + TRAVIS – BELMONT, MA

Molly + Travis

A few months ago, I worked with the amazing Lauren Wells Events on some very special day-of pieces for Molly and Travis’ gorgeous wedding at the Belmont Wildlife Sanctuary.  When I came across the photos (by the equally amazing Li Ward of Fat Orange Cat Studio), I just had to share.  I think they probably speak for themselves.

MORE CALLIGRAPHY WORKSHOPS IN LOS ANGELES!

October calligraphy workshop

After my last weekend of calligraphy workshops, I have been asked countless times when the next one would be.  So I’m excited to announce that I will be teaching a Beginner Workshop on Saturday, October 25 and an Intermediate Workshop on Sunday, October 26.

These are set up a little differently than most other workshops being offered now.  I’ve found that in a 3 hour class we barely scratch the surface, so I wanted to offer this longer and more comprehensive format.  Both will be 4 1/2  hours (10:30 am – 3 pm) and include a full lunch and cocktails to loosen up our writing arms!  In the Beginner Workshop we will delve deeply into the basics of pointed pen calligraphy, and in the Intermediate Workshop we will do more of the fun stuff such as flourishes, color, gouache, and some brush-work.

They are actually designed to work together, so even if you have never picked up a calligraphy pen before, you could take the beginner class on Saturday and get comfortable with using a pointed pen, and then take the intermediate class on Sunday to play with all the fun stuff.

I like to view these workshops as not only learning opportunities, but kind of like fun (usually girly – although we love it when men join in the fun!) parties – so it becomes an “experience” as well.  That makes it a great birthday present for a friend, or bachelorette party idea, etc.

Beginner Workshop
Saturday, October 25, 10:30 – 3
$225
You’ll receive a package of beginner materials including nibs, nib holders, paper, and ink.
Lunch and cocktails included
Location: Studio City, Los Angeles
Sign up: SOLD OUT

Intermediate Workshop
Sunday, October 26, 10:30 – 3
$250
You’ll receive a package of intermediate materials including nibs, nib holders, a brush, paper, gouache and ink wells, and colored ink.
Lunch and cocktails included
Location: Studio City, Los Angeles
Sign up: SOLD OUT

OR, sign up for both classes for $400: SOLD OUT

***To sign up for the wait list, or if you want to be notified of future workshops, send me a note through my contact form.

“THE GOLDIES” – MALIBU, CA

Goldies First Look

My dear friends Jen and Goldie (really, Adam Goldstein, but everyone just calls him Goldie!) got married last October at Casa Encantada, a drop-dead-gorgeous, rustic property in Malibu with a private home who’s owners recently started hosting weddings.  I was so happy that she asked me to participate in some of the day of signage, and so lucky to get to experience this magical wedding in person.  The photos, by the lovely and ridiculously talented Paige Jones (who herself got married at Casa Encantada), really capture how awesome and fun this couple is, and how cute, quirky, and full of detail the wedding was.  It was casual and relaxed, tons of fun, and looked unbelievable.  And did I say magical?  Magical!

The cocktail hour and the ceremony were on the bottom level of the property, then you walked up to the next level to find this beautiful table that ran the entire length of the property.  With twinkly lights, gingham tablecloths, and butcher paper for everyone to draw on with their colored pencil escort cards while eating barbecue from Max City BBQ.

Goldies and Signage

I painted this wooden arrow signage to direct everyone to the appropriate locale, and the “Let’s Do This” sign for the adorable flower girls to carry down the aisle.

(There was also a write up about the wedding on glamour.com with a ton more photos.  You can find that here.)
