Anne Robin Calligraphy + Design is a lettering and design studio based in Los Angeles, focusing on a luxurious, clean, and modern edge with an ethereal feel.
Anne first learned broad-pen calligraphy at the age of 9, when her mom forced her to take an after-school class. Turned out that she was the only kid in the class (the rest of the people who enrolled were teachers) and everyone oohed and aahed about how good she was, maybe just to build her confidence. But it worked, and she started lettering envelopes and invitations for friends and friends of friends.
After earning her BA in Dance at UC Berkeley, she moved to NYC in 2000 to try to make it as a professional modern dancer. She worked in restaurants to support herself (and, hated it) and decided to try “that calligraphy thing” again. To make a long story short, the business took off, she stopped dancing, got married, had a baby, continued working full-time, moved to Los Angeles, had another baby, and here we are today. Anne’s work and the business have evolved a bit, but essentially, it’s still very much about Anne and a pen and some ink.
Aside from her beautiful calligraphy, Anne is also known for her professionalism and sense of calm during the typically stressful process of planning a wedding. Some also know of her love of food, coffee, mid-century modern design, trash TV, and birth videos. She works out of her home studio, where her kids will often poke their heads in and interrupt her.
