• I have been toying with the idea of designing a calendar for years, but this year, when I realized it was going to be TWENTY TWENTY (and I loved the idea of writing that out in calligraphy) I knew I had to do it.  (I still sometimes write 1996 on my checks though, so there is absolutely no way I'm going to remember to write out 2020 in real life.)  Anyway, I have been fascinated with these abstract, flowy watercolors lately, so I decided to make them backgrounds for each month, and I also thought it would be fun to include a whole bunch of "Instagram holidays," since I've never seen that before, and because sometimes it would be nice to be reminded so that I can post appropriately.  I really only included the ones that I thought were fun and appropriate through.  Maybe I just made the calendar for myself.  Who knows?!?

    Virtual Workshops

During this unprecedented time, some of you are finding yourselves with more time on your hands to learn a new skill (or to further your skill) and some of you are looking to connect to a community and partake in something relaxing and creative. I have decided to offer my comprehensive Beginner Pointed Pen workshop and also a variety of shorter workshops, conducted over Zoom.  Classes will be very limited in size to make sure we have plenty of time for guided feedback and Q&A. Beginner 3 sessions May 17 at 10 AM - 1:30 PM PST May 23 at 2 - 5:30 PM PST June 9 at 2 - 5:30 PM PST In this course you will learn the basics of pointed pen calligraphy.  How to use the tools, how to troubleshoot, and a basic lowercase script.  It will run approximately 3.5 hours including a little bit of a break. Finding Your Own Style 2 sessions May 13 at 3 - 5 PM PST June 27 at 10 AM to 12 PM PST We will go through a series of exercises to work on tweaking, expanding, and changing a calligraphy style that you are used to using, with the goal of finding a completely new style that is unique and can become a signature for you. Brush Lettering June 6 at 10:30 AM - 12:30 PM PST - SOLD OUT Learn the basics of brush lettering in this workshop.  We will use a variety of brushes and learn to letter in both a proper script and also a more stylized one. Capital Letters June 13 at 2 - 4 PM PST Since we never have much time to devote to capital letters in Beginner workshops, this workshop will focus specifically on them.  We will go through different options for script caps, including some of the main flourishes you can use for caps, and even discuss how to develop your own.
